Elijah Bieniemy, Son of Chiefs Offensive Coordinator Eric Bieniemy, Arrested And Charged In Shooting Of His Mother

 Elijah Zion Bieniemy, the 27-year-old son of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, has been arrested and charged in connection with the shooting of his mother, Mia Bieniemy, at the family’s home in Ashburn, Virginia.

According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a shooting around 7:32 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2026, in the 20000 block of Northpark Drive. They found a 57-year-old woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was transported to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Mia Bieniemy, identified by multiple reports as the victim, is in stable condition, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told reporters Monday after training camp practice. Some accounts indicated she was shot in the arm and chest and underwent surgery.

Elijah Zion Bieniemy of Ashburn was arrested and charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and discharge of a firearm inside a dwelling. He is being held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have stated there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Eric Bieniemy was with the Chiefs at training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri, on Sunday. He was not present for Monday’s practice and has stepped away from the team to be with his family. The Chiefs released a statement saying the club is “aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy’s family,” adding that out of respect for their privacy, they would not comment further and that their thoughts and prayers are with them.

The family’s home is from Bieniemy’s earlier tenure as offensive coordinator with the Washington Commanders. Court records indicate a preliminary hearing for Elijah Bieniemy is scheduled for Aug. 31.

Details on what led to the incident have not been publicly released. Authorities noted that Mia Bieniemy herself called 911 after the shooting, and that no previous incidents had been reported at the residence.
