Former Eagles Super Bowl Champion Alshon Jeffery Faces Felony Insurance Fraud Charges

Alshon Jeffery, the retired NFL wide receiver best known for his clutch performance in the Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl LII victory, was arrested earlier this week on two felony counts of insurance fraud stemming from a 2025 car accident in San Diego County, California.

According to court records, Jeffery is accused of filing a false insurance claim after rear-ending a Lyft driver’s Tesla on northbound Interstate 5 on September 21, 2025. At the time of the crash, Jeffery’s policy with Infinity Insurance had lapsed on August 18 for nonpayment. He obtained a new policy with the same insurer three days later, on September 24. On October 17, he filed a claim stating the collision occurred on September 28, after the new coverage was in place.

Insurance investigators obtained photos from the scene taken by the Lyft driver and determined the accident had actually taken place on September 21, when Jeffery was uninsured. The company denied the claim after its special investigations unit was unable to reach him. Damage estimates showed roughly $13,000 to Jeffery’s 2021 Mercedes and more than $10,000 to the Tesla.

Jeffery was charged with two felonies: knowingly presenting a false or fraudulent claim for payment of loss or damage to a motor vehicle, and concealing or knowingly failing to disclose an event that affects a person’s right to an insurance benefit or payment. Each count carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $50,000 fine.

Jeffery’s representative, Denise White of EAG Sports Management, called the allegations “unfounded” and described the incident as “a misunderstanding and nothing more.” She noted that Jeffery provided his information at the scene of what she called a “minor freeway fender bender.”

The case has drawn attention among Eagles fans, many of whom still remember Jeffery’s contributions to the franchise’s only Super Bowl title. He has not commented publicly beyond his representative’s statement.
