Cristopher Sanchez Signs $100 Million+ Extention

The Philadelphia Phillies and left-handed pitcher Cristopher Sanchez have agreed to a six-year extension worth $107 million guaranteed. This deal begins in 2027 and runs through 2028, with a club option for 2033.

Key points of the deal:

  • It effectively restructures/extends his previous contract (a 4-year, $22.5 million extension signed in June 2024 that covered 2025–2028 with club options for 2029 and 2030).
  • The new agreement adds significant value for his later years (ages 34–35+), with roughly $60 million tacked on beyond the prior setup.
  • Average annual value: Around $17.833 million.
  • This locks in the Phillies' ace (who had a breakout run, including strong Cy Young contention in recent seasons) long-term.
Sanchez is clearly one of the best pitchers in the National League, so this contract is deserved. It is safe to say this is a very team-friendly deal. You can make the case that Cristopher Sanchez would be worth north of $180 million as a free agent.

The Phillies now have Aaron Nola signed to 2030, Jesus Luzardo signed to 2031, and 6 years of control of one of the top pitching prospects in Andrew Painter. The starting pitching at Citizens' Bank Park is just about set for a while now.
