NFL Elects To NOT Ban The "Tush Push"
The NFL has decided to not ban the "tush push" play, popularized by the Philadelphia Eagles. A proposal was made by the Green Bay Packers to ban pushing or pulling the ball carrier, which would have eliminated the tush push, failed to get the required 24 votes at the NFL's Spring League Meeting. The ending vote for 22-10.
The Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills ran the "tush push 163 times over the last three seasons with an 87% success rate. The Green Bay Packers and other critics have argued that it resembles a rugby scrum and have raised safety concerns. Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie and retired center Jason Kelce argued the play is safe, citing no injury data to support a ban.
I never believed the tush push should be banned. Despite the Eagles popularizing the play, there is nothing stopping any of the other NFL teams running the play as well.
