Tampa Bay Rays Looking To Play Some Home Games In Montreal

The Tampa Bay Rays are seeking permission from the MLB to be able to play half of their home games in Montreal in future seasons.

The Rays were looking to get a new stadium built and those plans fell thru. Despite the Rays being one of the best teams in the American League, they have an average of a little over 14,000 in attendance which is 2nd worst in the MLB.

I personally believe the Rays needs to get the hell out of Tampa sooner than later. This Montreal proposal might the first step to making that a reality.

The city of Montreal had an MLB team from 1969 to 2004 before the Montreal Expos moved to Washington D.C. and became the Nationals. This may also be an opportunity for the Rays to possible workout two separate regional TV deals.  Tampa has always been looked at as a small market team. Two separate TV deals could boost revenue for the franchise so much so, that they may increase their spending and be able to keep their star player or even sign major free agents.
