Eric Hosmer Agreed To An Eight-year, $144 Million Contract With The Padres

It looks like The San Diego Padres have won the bidding war for the services of Eric Hosmer. The Royals clearly wanted to keep Eric Hosmer for another potential championship run. The money was right and it seems that the interest was mutual amongst the Padres and Hosmer. This is the biggest contract in Padres history.

Eric Hosmer had a career-high .318 batting average and he played all 162 games in the 2017 season. It is likely that Hosmer will play first base and all-star Will Myers will move to the outfield.

The Padres are trying to compete with NL powerhouse Dodgers, the much-improved Diamondbacks, and the Giants who acquired a former MVP. I don't think this move makes the Padres a playoff team, but they are headed in the right direction.
