Dallas Mavericks Fire GM Nico Harrison

The Dallas Mavericks have fired general manager Nico Harrison, just nine months after his controversial trade of superstar Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. The dismissal comes amid a dismal 3-8 start to the 2025-26 season and serves as a stark admission that the organization's bold gamble on a "defense-first" rebuild has backfired spectacularly.

In an open letter to fans, Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont pulled no punches, acknowledging the shared disappointment while taking ownership. "No one associated with the Mavericks organization is happy with the start of what we all believed would be a promising season," he wrote. "When the results don’t meet expectations, it’s my responsibility to act." He praised the players commitment but stressed the need for change: "This decision was critical to moving our franchise forward in a positive direction." Closing on an optimistic note, Dumont vowed, "Our goal is to return winning basketball to Dallas and win championships. Our family is committed to that mission."

But where does this leave the fans? They still traded a generational talent, and now the guy who traded him is fired. The fans may have got what they wanted, but at what cost? It doesn't look like they will be a championship contender in the 2025-2026 season.
