Matiss Kivlenieks Dies In Accident

 It has been reported that Columbus Blue Jackets goalie Matiss Kivlenieks has died in an accident in Novi, Michigan. Matiss was trying to avoid fireworks which lead to him slipping and suffering a head injury. 

Kivlenieks was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead shortly after.

The Blue Jackets issued an official statement. 

"We are shocked and saddened by the loss of Matiss Kivlenieks, and we extend our deepest sympathies to his mother, Astrida, his family and friends during this devastating time, Kivi was an outstanding young man who greeted every day and everyone with a smile and the impact he had during his four years with our organization will not be forgotten." -  John Davidson Blue Jackets President of Hockey Operations.
