ON THIS DAY IN SPORTS: Cal Wins The National Championship In 1959


The Golden Bears captured their first NCAA title by beating West Virginia 70-71.

Cal was up against the Jerry West lead University of West Virginia team. West scored a game-high 28 points in this game but fell just short.

Califonia University was lead by Denny Fitzpatrick who scored 20 points help the Golden Bears win their first NCAA national title.
